My invitation to speak at the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development conference.

The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD)  performance management conference 12th October 2010 I’m really pleased to have been asked to speak at the CIPD performance management conference on 12th October. This has come about from me writing my letter ‘Excessive bureaucracy hinders performance management’ and I admire the CIPD for asking someone to speak who has written a controversial response to their research. The ever shifting Performance Landscape

The governor of the Bank of England, Mervyn King, has warned the UK economy faces a “choppy recovery” and it will be “several years before the economy adjusts back to anything we can call remotely normal”. Anyone in the personal development arena knows that our values are created at an early age and the effort that the... [Read More...]

Let the teachers teach…

It’s not often that I condone a rebellious action by any particular group, but this is one of those exceptions. Head teachers across the country have joined together and decided to boycott the sats tests for 10 and 11 year olds, saying that they are not a fair reflection of the school. This is a classic example of a government measure, designed to compare the performance of schools, put in place without being properly thought through. These tests... [Read More...]
